Frequently Asked Questions

Q.1: Would you recommend a way to begin learning medieval Astrology?

Yes. The best way I know, to learn, is to study with a teacher.

The best teacher I know of, for medieval Astrology, is Robert Zoller. He offers online courses, as well as a snail mail course.

You can find this information on his website: http://www.robertezoller.com/

There are those hardy souls that wish to be self-taught. Just realize that knowing the difference between a "conjunction" and a "corporeal conjunction" can make quite a difference in your study and practice. Without a teacher, it is easy to miss out on these distinctions and so learn the art wrong.

Q.2: Are there other sources that would be particularly helpful to a student?

Feel free to read any of my book reviews on this site, as I have tried to show the level of challenge and the focus of the ancient authors (in modern English translations).

The original works of Robert Zoller, and his manuscript translations of medieval texts, are my primary resources. His books are available as dowloadable eBooks. Find them at http://www.robertezoller.com/

Next would be the translations coming out of ARHAT, organized by Robert Hand. This is on Robert's home site http://www.robhand.com/ You can order from him after browsing for your selection.

The work of Robert Schmidt, in Project Hindsite, is bringing out much of the Greek works. Originally, there were three Roberts at Hindsite, Robert Schmidt, Robert Zoller and Robert Hand. Zoller was aided in his continuing translations of Bonatti and Al-Kindi, while Hand and Schmidt sought out manuscripts and followed with some of their own translations.

If you browse at http://www.Astroamerica.com/ by subject, you will discover a section for "Ancient Astrology", for "Arhat Publications" (Rob Hand's projects) and for "Medieval Astrology", which is really an amalgamation of some medieval texts with some Renaissance period texts, too. Astroamerica is one of my favorite resources for book buying. They offer online, credit card purchases.
